Album Notes

Since he was a teenager Charles Mazarakes has been making short films.
He always loved making them but there was something very special about taking the footage into a quiet editing room and placing one shot against another. That's when magic happened.
Most magical of all was bringing music into these films.
Instantly he could see what powerful effect music had.
Drawing on his early keyboard training he began composing.
Suddenly a door flung open and wondrous,
eclectic, powerful music stormed in.

Some recent reviews of the music from "Child of the West"

Jamie’s Gone
“I have this image of a young girl dancing with swirling motions, arms extended, and colorful gossamer material extending from both arms accentuating her every movement.
Love the syncopated interplay between the instruments and how they do their own dance in this time signature.”
Doug Summers

Jamie’s Gone
“This has a great sense of motion, trees and wet streets whipping past, cherry tops flashing, and a sustained sense of drama. Very evocative piece.”
Steve Craig

Miracles
“Really beautiful.
Really, really, really beautiful.”
Rebecca Williams

“You have such a light touch,
moving freely. I love the strings how
they move with the piece.
Just superb and Passionate.”
Jody G.

Child of the West
“Strings fill the air with a classic western motif... the layers built within are a fascinating mixture of suspense both dissonant
and bright. I feel that this paints
the picture of the immense sky and and expanses extremely well.
It's B-I-G out thar!”
Bob Prince

Erin’s Cove
“I am always amazed at the melody and sounds you can make.
This piece is wonderful!”
Enrique Gil

Gift for an Assyrian King
“Eastern Promise - You always compose very dramatic and evocative tracks, and this is no exception. Playful but dense, this has a really powerful sense of melody and mystery. excellent work.”
Steve Craig

Magnolia
“Wow! This is unlike anything of yours I've ever heard; it definitely brings the Gershwin 3 Preludes to mind, but you've taken it in its own, wonderful direction. This is just fantastic! Wonderful work, very moody, very pretty. Great job!”
Clark Ross

The Earth Trembles
“Excellent composition. LOADS of drama. VERY exciting.
Definitely has soundtrack/
score written all over this one.
Great stuff man!”
Julian Dwyer

Why Can’t I?
“Beautiful tension. The piano seems light and sweet but there is a powerful anger brewing. And the strings and percussion are well placed to complement the piano. Well Done!”
Bill Peace

Flight over Bagdhad
“HOT PIECE!
From beginning to end nothing dull about this.. especially the later intro of the middle eastern tones..
a meaningful slice of
the world as it is. “
