Album Notes

Volume 1 is the first half of a 29 song double album recorded by Mazochi over the period of 16 months in the mountains of Southern California.

Over the past few years Mazochi has been collecting an impressive set of awards and honors from independent publications and large publications alike. In 2006 Mazochi received LA Music Awards as Folk Singer/Songwriter of the year and for Folk Album of the Year (California Bound). Billboard Magazine called Michael "An Artist Likely to break into the big-time." Jane Magazine listed Michael on their end of the year 2007 "It List," judged in part by the Watson Twins. In addition, Coffeehousetour.com named Mazochi an "indie folk hero of the decade."

Mazochi is a self proclaimed obsessive of music and Volume 1 represents the first time that he wanted to "dip into a new bag of tricks." The album incorporates elements of Folk, Rock N Roll, Soul, Country, Indie Rock, and even Electronica. By the end of the album it becomes clear that this is a far cry from 2005's "A Day Without the Rose." It is the sign of an artist who clearly does not want to stand still for too long.

Don't be mistaken, the bigger production value and dense arrangements on Volume 1 do not mean that Mazochi has lost any of the delicate touches of independently produced art. This record was recorded, written, and performed by Mazochi with help from his band The Widows, who also support him in rollicking live shows.
