notes
Born in Cambridge, Mike started his musical career as a young teenager playing in the streets of Harvard Square and in the subways of Boston.
Soon he found himself playing in bars and clubs and performing extensively during the summer months on Martha's Vineyard.
After attending Hampshire College, Mike moved to New York and quickly became a busy studio singer and player, doing record dates, song demos and recording scores of national jingles from Coke to Clorox to Bud and played extensively in The New York City club scene.
Ten years in New York city and ready for a change, Mike moved himself and family to Martha's Vineyard Massachusetts and joined the 1996 Boston Music Award winning Band, "Entrain." While touring Nationally with Entrain, Mike worked on two of the bands CDs.
In 2000, Mike left the band and began working with his own group "The Mike Benjamin Band" and released a 14 song disk "Never Too Late". Songs from this cd are in regular rotation on several radio stations including WMVY, WBOS, WCIB, WUMB and more. Over the years mike has played with such greats as Bo Diddley, James Taylor, The David Letterman Band, The Blues Brothers, Carly Simon, Sue Tadeschi and many others.
During his years in New York he recorded with many artists including Mark Cohn, Delbert McClinton, Patty LaBell, Will Lee, Vicky Sue Robinson, Paul Shaffer.
This past summer Mike and the band had the honor of playing at ex-president Bill Clinton's 60th Birthday on Martha's Vineyard. Check out the video of Bill playing sax with the band at www.mikebenjaminmusic.com.

Great stuff!
author: d grantI am a huge fan of Entrain and Little Feat (I read that Mike resembled Lowell George, he really does) plus I consider the Island my “happy place” this is a wonderful find. Thanks WMVY for turning me onto it!
An album of grown-up hopes, dreams, love and quiet acceptance.
author: Susan PhuvasitkulMike Benjamin sings from the heart. His album, "Never Too Late" is full of the personal reflections and revelations of a man who’s seen some life and intends to push on with greater wisdom and optimism. Stylistically, Mr. Benjamin confidently uses funk, rock and folk to effectively put us in the right mood to hear a story. His tough rock and roll voice nicely contrasts with the funky "In the Town of Angels". The lyrical "$13 Check" is another story told with attitude and style. He also manages to bring a lovely soulful sound to songs like "Closer to You" and "Never Too Late". But what remains the album’s biggest strength seems to be its hopefulness. "If the Sky should fall and tumble right down into the sea, there will still be you and me," Mr. Benjamin sweetly sings in "Simple Love". And this sentiment is prevalent in an album of grown-up hopes, dreams, love and quiet acceptance.
Great musical blend
author: Jeremy SmithThe music is woderfully arranged. Each song seems to flow into the next. I truly enjoyed the entire CD.
Great stuff. Could hardly "put it down".
author: Dennis KosakowskiLike a good book I could hardly put "Never Too Late" down. I can easily listen to it daily. Not that I am a proponent of "pigeon-hole" catagorization, I do agree that one could consider Mike's style "Adult Alternative". With a blend of Greatful Dead, Little Feat and Chris Whitley, this CD sounds fresh and the stories told infectious. I could feel the Vinyard when listening to the CD. Both technically and asthetically a wonderful piece of work. Buy it! You won't be sorry!
A Top Quality Album!
author: Jack GubancMike Benjamin has recorded an album that does justice to comparing him to Lowell George. Mike has the voice as did Lowell to handle a ballad plus can rock out on a gutsy uptempo song. If you are a fan of Lowell George and the Feat when he was the leader, I believe you will enjoy this disc! I hope Mike will cover some of Lowell's best songs on future discs.
