Album Notes

MBird is singer/songwriter Megan Birdsall. Megan began studying the piano, guitar and violin at a very early age, and has been working in music ever since. She attended the prestigious Boston Conservatory of music, and has performed as a vocalist and musician all over the country. Megan has been lighting up the jazz world for the past five years, releasing three albums under her name. As a jazz artist she has performed constantly, including command performances for Michelle Obama and at an inaugural ball in early 2009. In 2008, Megan began recovery from a total jaw replacement surgery that saved her career and life. She had been diagnosed with a rare degenerative arthritic disorder that was fusing her jaw onto her skull and was cutting off her windpipe. Her surgeons did not know if she would ever sing again. While still in her hospital bed, unable to sing or even open her mouth, songs began swimming through her head, and she picked up a guitar again and started writing. As MBIRD, Megan records and tours with the finest musicians available, players who have worked with a wildly diverse array of artists, including Vince Gill, Carmen McCrae, ?uestlove of the Roots, Poco, Alison Krauss, Robert Plant, the Dixie Chicks, and many others. Her haunting melodies and evocative lyrics highlight the gorgeous instrument work and intelligent arrangements inspired by folk, country, jazz and r&b. All of this is held together seamlessly by MBIRD's flawless voice. Her warm honey tones glide effortlessly over her songs, an ever growing collection of material spanning up and mid tempo numbers, as well as ballads.
