Matthew Brookshire is a songwriter and performer living in Brooklyn, NY. Originally from the tiny eastern North Carolina town of Washington, Matthew relocated to NYC in 1998.
The CD, "8 Songs", is his first release. Written and recorded in the winter and spring of 2005 in Woodstock and Brooklyn, NY, the collection features Matthew on vocals, guitars and keyboards.
In 2006, Matthew's "Wedding Song" was named an Honorable Mention in the Mid-Atlantic Song Contest. "Wedding Song" and "I Reveal My Heart" were both added to SiriusOutQ radio and appeared in the Top 20. Matthew has performed showcases for EMI Records, Jezebel Music, the BMI Songwriter in Residence series and the International Pop Overthrow Festival. In June of 2006, Matthew was featured on the cover of Indie Sounds NY.
Matthew co-wrote four songs for the recent Todd Solondz film "Palindromes", starring Ellen Barkin and Jennifer Jason Leigh. Matthew's song "Seattle", co-written with Curtis Moore, appeared on the album "Entity" by #1 Billboard dance artist Kevin Aviance.
Performances in NYC include: Rockwood Music Hall, Crash Mansion, Pianos, the Bitter End (NY Songwriter's Circle), Caffe Vivaldi, Pete's Candy Store and other venues, frequently accompanied by violinist par excellence Erika Kapin.

Thoughtful, Moving, Full of Grace - Amazing CD!
author: Jamie SneiderI have played the CD for 5 hours today - just 8 songs over and over. It's truly a beautiful CD that is very moving and thoughtful. Matthew's voice sounds like a mix of Irish/Pop, Broadway and Folk music. I think he should have starred in "Hedwig and the Angry Inch", but that's my personal opinion. I listen to the CD when I write - the artistry, with which it was made, is quite inspiring. It makes me want to float away in thought. I think we all need 8 more songs.

author: Sarah B.I play this CD for the love songs. Hey, I like to feel good occasionally. There's nothing wrong with that. This is the kind of music that makes you believe love is possible. (Nothing else in my life would lead me to that conclusion.) So this CD plays a crucial role in my collection. And I recommend it for people in similar straits.

author: CoreyOn Friday night, I was handed a CD I had long wanted to get my hands on, Matthew Brookshire's debut album. It did not disappoint, except in one respect--I wanted more than 8 songs. The songs are acoustic and folksy, but also funny and ironic at times. It is the kind of music that I want to listen to enough so that I can learn the words, because the stories are so good. I'd rather not, but if pressed to compare him to other singer/songwriters I would say he’s most like Tracy Chapman and Duncan Sheik.

His lyrics are smart, and there’s irony in the first song, “Wedding Song,” which underlines his skepticism about his friend’s choice for a mate. The rest of the songs avoid irony and risk direct expressions of relationship angst (“Better,” “One of Those Things”); true love (“Mexico,” “Love Is A Lesson,” “I Fall Out”); a bad case of the blues (“Falling”). In “I Reveal My Heart,” my favorite song, he explores love’s potential to heal the blues. The guitar playing is straightforward and emotionally powerful, too, like these lyrics deserve. In “Eight Songs,” Matthew Brookshire offers his listeners models of open-heartedness that we can call upon when defensive mind games tempt us away from authentic encounters.

author: Ally S"8 of the Best Songs Ever" should be the true title of this art. Matthew exemplifies heart, love & soul with a light rockish meets almost ballad yet teeny-bit folksy sound. Catchy and wonderful to the ears. I play this over and over and over. Good for any company too... The next CD better be 88 Songs!
