MICHAEL McASSEY in concert reviews:
"Certainly one of the best voices in cabaret today. McAssey proves there is such a thing as a male cabaret STAR!"
-- NEW YORK POST
"He manages to somehow be both cabaret's most accomplished balladeer and its wildest, most uninhibited musical clown."
--VARIETY
"McAssey is in his prime right now. A voice that is as rich, warm and enveloping as you could ever hope to hear. It's clear that he's a star of any stage upon which he performs." --Scott & Barbara Siegel, THEATERMANIA.COM
"Non-stop entertainment, punctuated as often by his dazzling vocal prowess as it is by his comic genius."
--BACKSTAGE
"Ready to sample some outstanding cabaret? There aren't enough opportunities for New Yorkers to enjoy the McAssey magic. Catch him NOW!" -- CABARET SCENES
"His voice has never sounded better...the years have added a polish and luster that give his readings more depth and substance and his calm, focused delivery is to be envied. Like a fine wine, McAssey is a consummate professional who the years have only made better."
-- David Hurst, SHOW BUSINESS
"A supreme interpreter of a lyric, capable of exploding every emotion on stage from total buffoonery to tears."

BIOGRAPHY-
Michael McAssey is a winner and 3-time nominee of the MAC AWARD for Outstanding Male Vocalist, presented in New York by the Manhattan Association of Cabarets. He made his cabaret debut in 1982 at THE DUPLEX in New York's Greenwich Village and was one of the first performers to appear at DON'T TELL MAMA where he made his cabaret home for many years.
One of Manhattan's first male cabaret stars, Michael also appeared at FREDDY'S SUPPER CLUB, THE FIVE OAKS, and EIGHTY-EIGHT'S. He was the first male cabaret artist to play the Nancy LaMott Room at the BRADSTAN CONTRY HOTEL, and has appeared at ODETTE'S in New Hope, PA., STUDIO SIX in Atlantic City, JOHN L's in Dallas, TOLOUSE ON THE PARK in Chicago, THE EXPRESS in Fresno, CA. and THE GARDENIA in Los Angeles. He makes regular appearances in New York City cabarets, (including TOWN HALL where he has performed for the past two years as part of the Mabel Mercer Foundation's CABARET CONVENTION), appears in Chicago at DAVENPORT'S and GENTRY OF CHICAGO, and many seasons in Mykonos, Greece at MONTPARNASSE/THE PIANO BAR.
Michael was featured on Broadway in LATE NITE COMIC, Off-Bway in A HARD TIME TO BE SINGLE and IN GAY COMPANY, and tours of A CHORUS LINE, GODSPELL, I LOVE MY WIFE and BILLY BISHOP GOES TO WAR. Soap fans may remember Michael as blind pianist-singer George Baldwin on CBS-TV's GUIDING LIGHT. He appeared with Barbara Cook and Patti LuPone in Paris and toured with Ms. LuPone in her nightclub act, THE ARGENTINA TURNER REVUE. In Chicago Michael starred in the hit comedy SHEAR MADNESS and toured with Donny Osmond playing piano for JOSEPH AND THE AMAZING TECHNICOLOR DREAMCOAT. He co-starred as Banjo in THE MAN WHO CAME TO DINNER with Tony-nominee Andre de Shields at Madison Rep and hosted the first-ever sing-along concert version of Sondheim's COMPANY at Pegasus Players. A native Chicagoan, Michael now lives in Aspen, Co where he is the musical director and featured performer at THE CRYSTAL PALACE, and also appears nightly in their new piano bar/cabaret, IVORIES.
Named by CABARET SCENES MAGAZINE as one of "Cabaret's Premier Acts" Michael appears regularly in cabarets in L.A., N.Y., Chicago and Mykonos. His brand new recording on Original Cast Records, HOW LONG HAS IT BEEN?, in addition to his debut CD REQUESTS is in stores now and available online at Amazon.com, Originalcastrecords.com and CD Baby.com

Michael's "REQUESTS" are all the best...
author: Thom Heinrichs
Michael McAssey won't remember me, but I knew him "back when," way back when both he and my late partner Kenny Bryan were workin' their magic at NYC's "Don't Tell Mama" and "The Duplex." Michael was, as he remains, a wonder at the keyboard, with an encyclopedic memory for every showtune and standard ever written. (Or so it seems at times.) I thought he was wonderful then, but he was just getting warmed up. Touching, warm and funny, and his voice has just gotten richer. His selection of songs on "Requests" is befitting a complete show, ranging from the rousing to the wistful. Any fan of cabaret is going to find themselves fans of Michael's. Yes, the man is that good. Excuse me now. I have to go order his other CD "How Long Has It Been" from CDBaby. For Michael and me, it's been a long time. -- Thom Heinrichs; Long Beach, CA
