Album Notes

Bernadette McCallion is a singer-songwriter, and the vocalist for the ambient electronica outfit Pitch Black Dream. Her first solo full-length release is CRY WOLF, is now available.

Tracks from CRY WOLF are featured in in Daniel Zirilli's "The Champagne Gang" starring Bokeem Woodbine ("Dead Presidents"), on NBC's "Passions," and MTV's "Camp Jim." The title track can also be heard in the martial arts thriller, "Book of Swords."

Combining some of the heavier sounds of alternative rock with infectious and quirky hooks, Bernadette has developed a sound unlike her peers. Guitarist Rich Gaglia and drummer John DiGiulio (of the NYC-based band Psych!), joined her in the studio to craft this genre-hopping collection of songs.

Her previously released self-titled EP made the rounds at college radio throughout the U.S. & Canada. Critics gave it four stars, calling it "utterly impressive," "ethereal and emotive," and "haunting." Now, "Cry Wolf" is showing the same promise as its predecessor.

Bernadette can also be heard contributing vocals on Pushing Red Buttons's self titled debut, on and the Marlowe's "Sugarbursts and Thunderbolts" -- both available on CDBaby.

...just plain good music

The cover shot has her looking a bit like Ally Sheedy in The Breakfast Club...and her music could be described equally as brooding, again befitting Sheedy's character. No matter, her voice is strong, but not overpowering in an operatic Viking way. Her songs are hooky, yet possess enough of a dark tinge that you know there's a good story to be found in the lyrics. Her musical pals, Rich Gaglia and John DiGiulio, complement what McCallion doesn't play, and the result is just plain good music. Plus, it's hard to fit her into the "it sounds like…" equation, and that's refreshing. A solid effort from start to finish, and let's hope she keeps at it.

Energetic and lovely

The songs have pretty melodies though they sometimes resemble each other. But what does it matter, as long as they are all good songs? Bernadette“s voice can be soft and strong and I like listening to it. "Cry Wolf" stands out from the other songs because it is so calm and sad. It is of pure beauty; but I also love "Situation", "Full Moon Curse" and "House of Straw". Thinking of it - I love all the songs on this CD.

"...guilty pleasure"

Sometimes a little breath-y like Catatonia or Jann Arden. Moody like a Mazzy Star sometimes, but with more of a Natalie Merchant production quality. Songs like "What About Love?" would put her on Top 40 radio, while songs like "White" have more of an edge. A really fine voice, the same sort of guilty pleasure I get from the Cardigans, Dayna Manning and Lily Frost.
