Album Notes

This is a debut collection for Mark McDonald. Foot stompin', harp blowin', slidin', and growling the blues is what you get. But there is also the sweet and melodic side as demonstrated in the beautiful instrumentals, such as the title track, Great Long Time and the Delta inspired slide instrumentals like Open Door Blues, Porch Pie, or Cherry Street.

This album was recently recorded live in a Northern California Studio and captures the intensity and energy of Country or Delta blues as it was originally recorded. It is recorded in an effort to capture the feeling of an early '30's acetone session with the likes of Robert Johnson or Charley Patton. Many of the songs on Great Long Time are originals. Some are sweet, some are whimsical, and some are just great ole' original acoustic blues. But all are charged with energy and soul. Mark McDonald's intention is to continue the tradition of the roots of American music and he invites you to enjoy the ride.

What the Critics say:

Mark McDonald has really hit a home run with this CD. Usually there are a couple of favorite tracks on an album and some you'll want to skip over. I like EVERY track on this one! I'm looking forward to hearing what he'll come up with for an encore.

"The delicacy of the music is extremely digestible, and the more you hear it, the tastier it gets."

Captures the feel and sound of acoustic delta blues
author: Ira Stanley
Mark has obviously studied the delta blues deeply. The music and vocals are raw blues. If you close your eyes, you feel like you're on the front porch listening and taking it easy.
