So there's this painting. Its incredible detail, fine edges and opulent curves, its meticulous distinction and precise proportion draw you in so that for a moment, you get caught up in the technique. But then you stand back and suddenly, all these beautiful little details become this looming, arching completed image pulling you back into the detail over and over again. Matilda Catching Fire is this phenomenon through music. You can listen to their album over and over again simply because each time you listen there's a new layer, a new detail to become absorbed in whether micro or macro. Blending bits of emo, 90s rock and indie pop, these Portland rockers are onto something massive.

I haven't heard the CD but I've heard about it. To one of the members of this band ( don't know which one ) I know your aunt named Sue Casey. I am her friend she calls "Snigle." The name's too weird for me. Speaking of weird names how did you get your band name anyway? Maybe ask your aunt about me when you see her next.

Short and sweet, worthy of many listens.

I just listened to this album with the guy who recorded the band in his studio. The first thing that caught my attention was that the songs are very musically rich; very melodic. The next thing I noticed was the incredibly diverse palette of sounds that the band used in creating these songs. The guitars and the vocals are often screeching together in music and/or noise in a way that usually comes out strangely harmonic. I felt that the synth parts were somewhat out of place. That's a personal preference. What is beyond personal preference is the fact that there is true quality and emotion in the music on this album. Highly recommended.
