After having survived another drunken Friday night McGunk show at the Broad St Tap, I decided to head to Jamaica Plains for their Midway Matinee show the day after. They finish their set, it's now close to 6 p.m., the van is loaded, and we start on the trek to Arlene's Grocery in New York for them to play their second show of the day. Since The McGunks are scheduled to play last we have to sit through a very white, very angry militant reggae band, then a soft pop funk band that smiled as it raped our ears. The way the crowd ran out of there when The McGunks started playing I would have sworn it was a 90's Hair Metal Night. It took less than 2 minutes for the room to fully clear out. I think it's a shame that the people didn't stick around, because they missed out on one hell of a set. The boys played with all they had, this CD in your greasy little hands is the best proof of that. This is a great example of the energy that The McGunks bring to every performance, whether it’s for 3 people or 300. So sit back, crack open a six pack, turn it up loud enough for the neighbors to hear, and enjoy.
