Album Notes

"... Proving once again that contemporary bluegrass can expand its borders without losing its integrity. The music of the McKrells is hip and smart, thoughtful yet fun, and yes, the roots are intact ,"
Julie Koehler, Bluegrass Unlimited
"..The McKrells reputation looms larger with each passing day, and deservedly so. Who can match their unique ,passionate and almost frighteningly powerful mix of Celtic melodies , worldbeat rhythms and hot bluegrass picking. Nobody."
Michael Eck, The Times Union.
Emerging from the folk clubs of Saratoga Springs in 1995 The McKrells have gone on to perform on the venerable stages of Carnegie Hall ,Troy Music Hall, Berklee Performance Hall and Lincoln Center . With perfomances at some of the top music festivals in the world including Saratoga's own Friehofer Jazz Festival, the Falcon Ridge Folk Festival, Winterhawk Bluegrass Festival, Celtic festivals in Milwaukee, Savannah , Philadelphia , Buffalo, clubs, coffeehouses and concert halls of Ireland, the United States and Canada. Blending the high lonesome bluegrass heart with the poignancy of the Celtic spirit and the freedom of todays new acoustic music . Full of life, genuine and uncommon, The McKrells are outstanding musicians with the rare ability to create their own style of music.

A fine album though a break from the Celtic music I enjoy.

Cosmic Hayride is a fantastic bluegrass album with a hint of Celtic soul thrown in. Chris's banjo work and Laz's guitar are heads above most bands. Kevin's singing is always a delight and the rest of the band lend so much to the overall sound. I hope a new Celtic album is in the works as Kevin's ballads are the best.

From top shelf original and selected materials to dedicated from the heart vocal and instrumental expression this CD stands second to none in the Celtic/Bluegrass/Folk or any other genre of music. A collection of songs performed to perfection rich in variety as evident in the fierce instrument title cut "Cosmic Hayride", the haunting "Last Cold Kiss", and the tender "For Emily" that won't you let turn it off until it's finished and tempts you to play It over and over again. Cosmic Hayride is a must for any McKrells fan, an excellent choice for any music lover, and yet another continuing milestone in the musical journey that is The McKrells
