Unlike many CD’s that seem to be one-themed, one-style, The Sun Shines at Midnight spans the range from honky-tonk ragtime to pure blues ballads. The songs work together,  They could be the backbone of a musical – about a couple who meet, fall in love writing songs together, dancing together-sometimes to their own music--face competition in a Rasputin-like interference, and finally, inevitably – fall out of love, dissolving, as is expressed in the poignant “Our Last Song” – which is, of course, the last song on the CD.  But if that seems a little downbeat for you, don’t fret.  Hope as I do that Michael Cook has more on the way, and that “Our Last Song” is only the last song at the end of the second act.

What's so great about this collection is that it has both bounce and depth, poignance and ideas.  Have been discovering a new tune, each time I play the CD.  There's an unexpected sweetness and a singalong musicality.  Great combination.
