Album Notes

Memoirs of a Beatlemaniac... Quirky Gospel Tunes... Many Mood Swings... With help from the Schismatics, the Celestials, the Lounge Lizards, the Meanderthals, the Clichés, Reflux, the Side Effects, and the Heuristics. Songs about coffee, Raskolnikov, Godzilla, Jesus, etc.

This CD is a collection of songs I have written or co-authored over the years, with special guests including Warren Vaché (cornet), Gerry Niewood (sax and winds), Lynn Anderson (vocals), Margaret Dorn (vocals), and Kenny Brescia (guitar). George Small (piano, co-author) and Chip Fabrizi (recording engineer, percussion) were essential in bringing these songs to realization.

Included with the CD is a booklet with all lyrics.

Unlike many CD’s that seem to be one-themed, one-style, The Sun Shines at Midnight spans the range from honky-tonk ragtime to pure blues ballads. The songs work together, They could be the backbone of a musical – about a couple who meet, fall in love writing songs together, dancing together-sometimes to their own music--face competition in a Rasputin-like interference, and finally, inevitably – fall out of love, dissolving, as is expressed in the poignant “Our Last Song” – which is, of course, the last song on the CD. But if that seems a little downbeat for you, don’t fret. Hope as I do that Michael Cook has more on the way, and that “Our Last Song” is only the last song at the end of the second act.

What's so great about this collection is that it has both bounce and depth, poignance and ideas. Have been discovering a new tune, each time I play the CD. There's an unexpected sweetness and a singalong musicality. Great combination.

What a great collection of songs that reach beyond the standard nuances of what we expect and radically shift our attention to what is both poetical and transcendent. Bravo!!
