Album Notes

Mary Courtney fell in love with this beautiful composition by her dear friend Dave Mc Gilton now living in Co. Cork Ireland.

The Sky Belongs To Dreamers speaks directly to the heart. In the long and established tradition of folk songs commemorating or addressing a major event in history it was in this spirit the song was crafted. It is in part a tribute to the sacrifice and courage of Fr Mychal Judge, the Irish American Chaplain to the New York City Fire Department who lost his life on 9/11 and is also an acknowledgment of the sacrifices made by so many on that fateful day. Partially inspired by the world famous photograph of Fr.Mychal’s body being carried from the rubble with great respect by his brothers from the emergency services, the song also reaches far beyond that day and into the world that we find ourselves in now.

This is not a sentimental eulogy for a fallen hero, it is a vibrant conversation with a living spirit and among other things is an echo of the belief in the power of love over death, a message that Fr Mychal and many others the world over would feel has perhaps more relevance now than it would have had even some short years ago. The spirit of the song is one of consolation for lives lost but it is also one of hope and determination that the voices of peace and true freedom can and will triumph and be heard over and above the calls to war that have marked the opening years of the 21st century. Dave has just issued a new CD called 'Louder than the Drums of War' please go to www.artistsforhealing.com for complete information.

Wonderfully written and most beautifully sung. Mary's voice is strong and rich. She makes the song feel like a part of you a part of your own life. Fantastic.

a beautifully sung, beautifully written song of living hope rising from the ashe

The singer's smooth vocal delivery and the composer's haunting melody beautifully frame the writer's words to give us a picture of hope. Hope that from such a useless, barbaric, act of death and destruction, Fr. Mychal's and the deaths of others will seed the ground for a better future world.

This song is a great folksy song. It makes one wonder about the world we live in and the life we live. The song may be about a certain person, but it can apply for others in one's life. Awesome song! A must have in any language and culture!

A very moody and moving piece!

This song is beautifully done and the artists voice strikes ones soul. The song quickly establishes itself as a rich mood piece of broad proportions. The artist herself reminiscent of a mix between an early Joan Baez and Enya.
