Album Notes

Thomas Meany is a graduate of the Philadelphia College of the Performing Arts, where he studied with Adeline Tomasone and Loren Lind. He later studied with Harold Bennet in New York City. Mr. Meany has performed at the Aspen Music Festival, Summertrio Chamber Music Festival and the Puccini Opera Orchestra in Italy. He has played in master classes with leading flautist's such as the late Murray Panitz, Chicago Symphony's Donald Peck; Samuel Baron of New York University and Toshio Takahashi at the East Tennessee Suzuki Flute Institute. In addition to performing regularly with guitarist Michael Simmons, Mr. Meany has performed in recital for the Matinee Music Club, the Philadelphia Cultural Council, the Flute Society of Greater Philadelphia and the Department of Recreation. He has played for the Opera Company of Philadelphia, the Philadelphia Orchestra Society, the Haddonfield Symphony, and the Lansdowne Symphony. Mr. Meany is a certified Suzuki Instructor and has recently received the Alberta Denk Memorial Scholarship and the 2002 Joe Cleveland Memorial Scholarship from the Suzuki Association of the Americas. He teaches for Instrumental Music Programs, Temple University Prep, Academy of Community Music and Settlement Music School. He is the current President of the Flute Society of Greater Philadelphia.

Michael Simmons, classical guitarist, holds a bachelor's degree in music from The University of the Arts and a graduate degree in music history and guitar performance from Temple University. Mr. Simmons studied with John Leonard and Peter Segal and has performed in master classes for Benjamin Verdery, Sharon Isbin, Eliot Fisk, Carlos Barbosa-Lima and Oscar Ghiglia. He was the winner of the second annual Philadelphia Classical Guitar Society competition and a finalist at the 1995 National Guitar Summer Workshop concerto competition. Mr. Simmons is an active solo guitar performer and is a member of the Philadelphia Classical Guitar Trio. He also performs regularly with Flautist Thomas Meany and vocalist Lizette Casals. Mr. Simmons is the current president of the Philadelphia Classical Guitar Society and is on the faculty at the Shipley School and the Woodlynde School.
