Socially Conscious Songwriters Sing for Peace Education
The Chance for Peace project has released a compilation CD to benefit Morningside Center for Teaching Social Responsibility, formerly known as(ESR Metro).
The project showcases a message of hope and a new vision for the future by award-winning songwriters, vocalists and musicians in response to the events of September 11th and the subsequent conflicts. The project's CD compilation, produced by Media Dream Productions, is entitled, "A Chance for Peace" and features Nina Mankin, Sam Hooper, Tuesday May Thomas, Johnny Black, Casey Holford, Robin Franzblau and The 5GZ, among others.
All proceeds will benefit Morningside Center which provides teachers with a curriculum of peace education for the New York City School System .
ESR Metro was founded in 1982 by educators concerned about the dangers of nuclear war.
Their mission is to help people develop the skills and convictions they need to shape a just, peaceful, and democratic society. Morningside Center's work is now concentrated in two areas:
- teaching children and adults skills in conflict resolution and intercultural understanding
- promoting critical thinking, social awareness, and positive action in the classroom and beyond.
Organizations like Morningside Center need our immediate support so that young people can be given the skills to envision and build a more just and peaceful world, says project producer Roland Marconi. The Chance for Peace project brings together great songwriters and musicians who choose to make a difference in the world with their talents. We know that music is one of the most powerful mediums for reaching the hearts of people and inspiring them to, as John Lennon sang, "Give Peace a Chance". Through music, the idea of peace can be transformed from a lofty dream into a tangible possibility that we can act on.
