Album Notes

Medicine Hat combines roots-rock, country-rock, and the occasional down-home romp, sprinkled here and there with a wry sense of humor. Combining a sound slightly reminiscent of Crazy Horse-era Neil Young, while giving a nod and a wink to more recent artists such as Uncle Tupelo and The North Mississippi All-Stars, the members of Medicine Hat are slowly carving out their own sound, oblivious to trends or fads that fade away as soon as they appear. Their debut album, 'Sundown Road' barrels along like an old pick-up truck down a West Indiana highway--stopping only for gas, fireworks, and a book of matches...

Terrence Flamm of the Illinois Entertainer had the following to say about "Sundown Road"...

"Medicine Hat's tales of violence and life on the road have an authentic rural feel, thanks to Demi Buckley's slide guitar, mandolin, and harmonica playing. Buckley writes the bulk of the band's material with occasional help from guitarist Ryan Marzano, and Ben Walker brings the lyrics to life with his rough- hewn vocals. "County Line Girl" is a melodic, midtempo southern rocker, while "Sharecropper" gallops along at a much faster pace. Medicine Hat gets down with some ZZ Top boogie on "Front Porch Swing," and sounds most effective evoking Steve Earle with the energetic roots rock of "Highway Run".

This cd is just awesome!!! Although this style of music is not very "mainstream" (who cares though), anyone with an open mind can clearly hear the greatness that is Medicine Hat's "Sundown Road." Crank this one up in our car and rock out!!!!

Very refreshing loud roots rock...
author: Benton Hendricks--Little Rock, Arkansas
These folks should move down to Arkansas or Florida--theyd be huge down here. Think of The Allman Brothers or CCR with a dash of heaviness--almost Sabbath-heavy. Cool stuff for a bunch of northerners. Definitely a breath of fresh air. I think if the members of Medicine Hat ever ran into Blink 182 or Good Charlotte, they'd kick their whiny suburban be-hinds...
