Album Notes

Medicine Hat was formed by Steve Loveday (Guitar) and Garry Bowler (Drums), who, along with New Zealand born vocalist Mark Jackson, fused their respective roots into the band's hard driving yet emotive genre-defying style.
After recording a demo CD, the band secured a deal with 'Gut Records', (famous label for 'Aswad' & 'Space') and recruited a new country-picking guitarist Mark Wright.

In the famous Nam's Studio's in Olympia, London, they recorded the EP 'C'Mon Here'. A video was filmed and received plays on VH1, the ITV Chart Show & MTV. Meanwhile, the band played raucous sessions on Virgin radio, Radios 1 & 2, and GLR.

Gut Records and Medicine Hat parted company but even without a deal the band finished the year opening up the British Music Fair at the Wembley Conference Centre.

The band retuned to gigging and getting support on the U.K. club scene.
Vinyl Records put a live version of 'C'mon Here' on a compilation album called 'Cowpunks', The band barnstormed their way through a set at the launch party in Kensington and a shaken Johnny Walker (BBC Radio 1) declared on stage, "Now that was country music with attitude!"

One spring, with the new CD 'Bone Dry', the band took a trip to the MidWest
of U.S.A. Their trip was a huge success and upon their return received call from Way-Out-West Records saying that they had heard the 'C'mon Here' EP, liked it, and wanted to sign them.

Out went original bassist and in came Lol Dalziel (whose frenetic style compliments the bands dizzying guitars) and James Whiteman (keyboards).
After a long wait, a re-packaged, re-recorded and re-engineered version of 'Bone-Dry' was released to coincide with the band playing at the Americana festival.

With new management (Halo), The band appeared on two Cover CD's for magazines 'Guitarist' and 'Classic Rock', and hit the road re-energised. They embarked on a 20 date tour, with packed venues and a lot of support. During this tour the band recorded the 'LIVE' album at The Junction, Cambridge.
Halo sent the band to Spain to do another video, this time for the Way-Out-West released single 'I Still Bleed'. The single received play on Channel4, Channel5, and rock shows and stations around the U.K.

Recently the band have been touring Italy, filming a 4-track promo video shot & interview for Sky TV, sampling the new track 'Lightnin' on Sky Sports, and are continually filming a documentary charting the bands' work.

This years highlight was a performance in their namesake town Medicine Hat in Alberta, Canada.
They have just completed the video to the new single 'Too Far Gone' reasy to release overseas in March 2003

The Country Boys Are Back In Town!

The CD sounds great. The recording and production have that nice 'live' feel that is missing in many live albums, and the drums in particular pound out of the speakers. The selection of songs is good, but I may have given the full 5 stars had 'One Of These Days' been included, which, in my opinion is criminal in it's abscence, being the best track on the 'Bone Dry' album. I love the version of 'Country Boy', despite the slight timing slip up in one of the drum breaks towards the end. Doh! A fine rendition of 'Sweet Home Alabama' closes the set in raucous style, to round off a satisfying 80 minutes of Hat meyhem! One other small gripe is that, for want of a few seconds of careful editing, it could have been fitted onto one CD. All in all, a great live album, and one which I will play often.
