Lance Boyd played the blues with the Legendary H-Bomb Ferguson.
Lance has lived all his life in Cincinnati, growing up listening to gospel, jazz, and the blues with his parents. He and his siblings chose to share their parents' musical tastes, adding R&B, Funk and Rock to their collections. His influences throughout his life have been B.B. King, Albert Collins, Kenny Burrell, Wes Montgomery, George Benson, Earl Klug, and Larry Carlton, to name quite a few. He began playing in 1965, joining groups such as "Soul Syndicate" and the "Dynamic Dominators".
In 1970, Lance chose to do what many men of his generation were doing and joined the Service. He didn't let this hold him back from playing the music he loved - - - he traveled with "The Group", doing Shows in Southeast Asia, Guam, the Philippines, and Hawaii. When he left the service in 1974, he was determined to continue performing.
Various bands over the years have welcomed Lance into their fold. In 1975, it was "Soul Relations", followed by "The DAB Band" in 1976. Then it was on to "World Piece" in 1979, "Free Flight" (where he added Jazz to his repertoire) in the 80's, and "Uncle Russell & The Kinfolks" in 1990.
1996 gave Lance his greatest opportunity to date. He joined up with legendary bluesman H-Bomb Ferguson and his group "The Medicine Men" and has been with them ever since.
The Medicine Men now play the blues, as well as rock, funk, R&B, and jazz. Lance can be seen in clubs such as Fat Bob's, Mc Dog's, and Stanley's As well as performing, Lance has been involved in many recording sessions, and served as a side man on various CD's.
Lance has also performed at:
- Greater Cincinnate Blues Festival July 1996 & 2001
- Rhythm-Riot Festival London (East Sussex) Great Britain November 2001
- Ponderosa Stomp #4 New Orleans April 2005
