Album Notes

The West Philadelphia native has been described as a “breath of fresh air” in an industry over-saturated with gimmicks. Gimmick-free, articulate and passionate about her music, Medinah Starr raises the bar for all aspiring MCs. If you are a fan of the versatility of Lauryn Hill on “The Score”, the lyrical weaponry of Rah Digga or of the socially conscious lyrics of Queen Latifah, then brace yourself for Medinah Starr. Refusing to follow the current trend of the gun-clapping over-sexualized female MC, Medinah’s style is a unique fusion of spoken word and socially conscious lyrics with a street-smart edge. Her choice of beats reflects her versatility and her love for that vintage hip-hop sound and jazz. In 2006 she released a mixtape entitled, “The Renaissance: the rebirth of hip-hop, vol. 1” featuring Access Immortal and Nimrod from the foundation. This mixtape is considered “classic” by reviewers and fans. She has been profiled and reviewed on websites and magazines in the USA and abroad. Emory Garris of doyourart.com writes, “No one else’s story connected with me quite the way hers did”. Medinah has collaborated with artists such as Guru from Gangstarr, Shabaam Sahdeeq of Lyricist Lounge fame and the philly-based hip-hop group Outerspace. For those afraid to take a chance on a female MC because of their recent shortcomings, Medinah Starr is here to fill the void and to quench the thirst of hip-hop lovers everywhere. Her debut album, “Beyond Reazon” will be released in January 2008 on Introspect Records and once you hear it, all stereotypes associated with female MCs will crumble as Medinah resurrects the culture from a female perspective.

Above Average - Worth Having!!
author: Serena
This is Medinah Starr's debut album and I was surprised by the contrast to her mixtape. On here you can hear that Medinah is truly 100% woman. Her lyrics do something to me. She is powerful, confident and energetic. I can put this cd in and let it play from beginning to end. My favorite songs are "perseverance" and "how could i". I think that this is worth having. People should support this sister!! This is quality music! We need more females like her in this genre! Hip-Hop isn't dead. Just purchase this and see for yourself!
