Goodwin's disc is a cut above.
author: Malcolm Mayhew, Fort Worth Star-Telegram
Ever since the Toadies crawled out of Fort Worth and onto MTV, the city's been on the prowl for the next garage-to-gold success story. Closest we've come is Sugarbomb, but RCA dropped the pop-rock band before it had a chance to blow everyone away, consequently destroying the group.
Lots of ears and eyes are now on Goodwin, a four-piece rock band made up of ex-members of Bindle and Pablo & the Hemphill 7. The group's throwing a release party for its self-titled, independently released debut Saturday at the Wreck Room.
Fame's always a coin toss, with Fort Worth bands usually coming up tails, but Goodwin's disc is a cut above what most local bands spit out. It's guitar-driven pop-rock, yet it sounds like the type of multi-layered indie-rock you might have heard back in the early to mid-'90s -- stuff like Inch, Arcwelder and Silkworm. Texture, white noise, insanely catchy melodies and Tony Diaz's ironhanded vocals collide in a creative way on just about every song.
Damien Stewart is the group's secret weapon. While most local drummers are just kinda "eh," Stewart is an extremely versatile player who elevates the band's performances -- and this record -- to staggeringly good heights; good luck to these guys.

Great songs with great hooks, played and sang with power
author: Andrew
Goodwin really know what they are doing on this CD. Great songs with great hooks and played and sang with power and poise. A well produced album which can be listened to from start to finish without having to skip over any bad songs, there are none. Goodwin manage to put energy onto CD and thru this I can imagine what they're live show must be like.. To my mind touches of Bob Mould surface here and there but this is a very good thing, not many bands can release a CD which has this kinda guitar driven sound without going over the top. They really hit they're groove on songs such as Weight and Song. One would think the only way is up for Goodwin...here's hoping!

"Best rock album I've heard in five years..."
author: Ken Shimamoto, Fort Worth Weekly
From the opening "Song," Goodwin delivers the goods, capturing the dynamism of the band's live show and throwing into brilliant relief the exquisite pop sense of guitarist Daniel Gomez' songwriting. Quite simply, it's the best rock album I've heard in five years (since Turbonegro's Apocalypse Dudes, if you're wondering). But while Goodwin's a band with more than a little humor on stage, there's a lot more heart in this debut than there was in Turbonegro's tongue-in-cheek homage to arena rock clichés.
