17 year-old Megan Johns grew up in the small urban oasis of Champaign, Illinois-- a town surrounded on all sides by endless fields of corn and soy. Dirty Shoes tells stories of a day rambling through this town of coffee shops, dreamers, maniacs, and bums.
Musically, the album features an impressive array of artists, incorporating acoustic and electric guitar, and everything from cello to djembe. Dirty Shoes also features the bassist Peter Hughes, from the indie favorite, Mountain Goats.
Quotes:
"From the moment that the CD first began to play I was blown away. Johns' 10 original songs on 'Dirty Shoes' are a welcome relief from the usual sappy love songs and teen angst that fill commercial radio"

sounds of The Waifs, Mazzy Star, Ani DiFranco and early Jewel

Kicky musical selections blending sounds of The Waifs, Mazzy Star, Ani DiFranco and early (non-commercial) Jewel. I love how the instruments complement her voice instead of covering it up. Every song is a good one, I don't see myself getting sick of these songs like so many of those on the radio. It sounds like she's playing her guitar in your living room just for you and your friends!
