Meghan Cary
"Can the world stand one more storytelling troubadour?
If the artist in question is Cary, the answer is a resounding YES."
-- Billboard Magazine
Meghan Cary's music has drawn comparisons to Shawn Colvin, Stevie Nicks, Blind Faith and even Bruce Springsteen. An award-winning songwriter and a natural on stage, Cary was named Billboard Magazine's Critic's Choice for Best Newcomer when she hit the music scene.
But an evening with Meghan Cary is more than great music; it's an intimate theatrical experience that brings her audience along on a rewarding emotional ride. Cary's typical audience will find themselves intermittently stomping their feet, wiping their tears and howling with laughter. As one critic exclaims: "Cary is a star waiting to happen!" (Barry Fox -The Patriot News).
And now on her latest CD, Cary captures that energy and the intimacy of her live show. "Live at Your House" is unique in the fact that it was recorded live in of one of her fan's living room. "I perform house concerts all over the country, so when it came time to record my first live album I knew that to capture the intimacy, energy and comfort level I wanted from the room, it had to be a living room." The audience is as much a part of Cary's newest CD as the artist herself.
Cary began writing and performing her original music in 1995 after the unexpected death of her fiance and musical partner, Matthew Black. "When Matti died, I lost my best friend and soul mate," says Cary. "But I knew he wouldn't want me to lose sight of the dream. I wrote music because it was the only way I found to survive the greatest loss in my life to date. I picked up Matti's Martin and started playing because it was the only way I knew to keep the dream alive." Cary found solace in songwriting, and ultimately recorded her award-winning debut CD, New Shoes. In praise of New Shoes, Billboard Magazine points tp Cary's "poetic flair reminiscent of the initial efforts of The Indigo Girls and Shawn Colvin."
Cary's sophomore release, Onion Dream, featuring lushly produced tracks as well as Cary's signature simple acoustic songs, has also received rave reviews. "Meghan Cary writes great songs and puts them forth with integrity, beauty and class....Of the many independent releases that I've received for review, this is one of the very few that I expect to listen to many times for pleasure." (Jon Sobul - KozmicBlues.net).
Raised in Hershey, PA, Cary studied mathematics and chemistry at Duke University, with plans of becoming a doctor. However, she made an about-face while in school, ultimately earning her B.A. in theatre before going on to obtain her M.F.A. in acting at Florida State University's Asolo Conservatory. She has performed in more than 50 plays throughout the United States and Europe while simultaneously working in film, television and radio. Cary is a founding member of the NYC-based, Actor's Shakespeare Company. If you haven't caught her playing Helena in "Midsummer", you've probably seen or heard Cary in your living room selling you everything from diapers to long distance telephone service.

I miss the old days!
author: Robyn Horowitz
Meghan has only gotten better through the years. I remember the days around the campfire where she would just start playing "The Dog Song" out of the blue. Hearing it on the CD brought back the greatest memories. This CD is put together very well, and gives a GREAT example of who Meghan truely is, and what her music is about. An asset to any CD collection.

Great CD - like hearing Meg live
author: Bethany Reeves
Anyone who's heard Meghan live knows what a performer she is - she has a special gift for communicating and connecting with her audience. This CD captures that quality, along with a generous program of old & new favorites and a fun section of "outtakes" that comes on a minute or so after the last song.
