Matt Meighan began performing in Chicago while still in high school in the 1960s and has since traveled the world with his music. He's played on the street corners of New York City, Melbourne, Australia, and Venice, Italy, and has regularly brought his songs to the pubs of Ireland over the past ten years.
In Boulder, Colorado Matt founded the Boulder Song Circle, co-founded and hosted the weekly Acoustic Brunch songwriter's showcase, and performed regularly along Colorado's front range. He currently lives in Portland, Oregon.
Meighan's musical heros include Woody Guthrie, Lightnin' Hopkins, Mississippi John Hurt, Townes Van Zandt, Lucinda Williams and Utah Phillips. His original songs range from the personal to the political and from humorous to downright bleak.
Boulder music favorite Danny Shafer (Danny Shafer & the Red Glory Ramblers) calls Matt, "One of the most honest voices in folk music."

Warm and Direct
author: Cassandra Pollock
Listening to this CD is like putting on a pair of well worn, comfortable walking boots. The scuff marks we all have on our lives are evident in these songs. Sometimes the abrasion comes from living against the grain in a capitalistic, war mongering culture. Matt Meighan puts such signs of wear in his songs. Balanced with just enough tracks containing humour to make you want repeated listenings.
Has the feeling of an intimate, simply arranged, no bullsh*t performance you'd catch at a good folk festival.

Great! Classic folk sound, unique life-philosophy, politics and humor
author: Real Roots Cafe
Matt Meighan’s CD exudes great self-confidence, primarily because of the performance of his songs and the deep, warm timbre of his voice. From his biography I learned that that he is a street musician and has played in various corners of the world.. A classic folk sound imbues Meighan’s music, music in the style of Woody Guthrie, Dave Van Ronk and Phil Ochs. As for his lyrics, they clearly come from someone who has plenty of fighting spirit. His idiosyncratic approach, his philosophy of life, must have emerged from the “lessons” that this earthly life has in store for all of us. Such a credible street musician must have learned those lessons in the school of hard knocks, and he sings his stories with that experience under his belt. Not with crossness, but with great perspective, and also humor. Despite the political undertones he brings to some of the tracks, I sense not the least bitterness in the compelling repertoire covered so generously in “Fall Down.” The total of 10 songs includes three covers, one each by Deb E. Dee (completely new to me, but with the brilliant “White Rose of Black Town Lake”), Ma Rainey & Ed McCurdy, while the rest of the material is original. My personal favorite is the epic “Gather ‘Round People,” the final track on this album. Curious about what will come next from this modern minstrel?
