Melanie Devaney is an intuitive and unique songwriter whose lyrics and melodies embrace the spirit of rural America with an ironic poetic polish and cosmopolitan flair.
Her achievements include winning the 2007 Colgate Country Showdown as sponsored by 98.1 FM KHAK radio station in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. She also won an honorable mention for her song “Right Here On the Farm” in the 2006 Mid-Atlantic Songwriting Competition. She has entertained audiences at Tucson Folk Festival, Cheyenne Frontier Days, the Midwest Old Threshers Reunion and the Sturgis, South Dakota Black Hills Bike Rally.
Her first CD, “Cadillac Daddy,” released in 2006, proved her as a serious songwriter and musician.
Her new album, "Happy, Lucky, Lost & Free," released in December of 2008 was produced by Ted Wulfers. It combines her amazing lyrics and vocals with his unique production style to provide a toe-tapping, fun listenng experience for all ages.
The strength of Melanie's music lies in her ability to create melodic twists that stay in your head for weeks. Drawing heavily on poetry techniques and relying on her background in creative writing, Melanie's songs are snippets of stories and images that take listeners to new places. Melanie's music is a mix of country and city. As one listener put it, "Listening to Melanie sing is like having an organic picnic in a city park."

My Favorite Live Show

Melanie's new EP, while well-produced, does not give her justice in my opinion. I fell in love with her music as a live artist. A natural beauty in every strong way, Melanie's lyrics and melodies capture your attention and always make you smile. She is unlike anyone I've ever heard before - a truly unique artist. She has great stories behind the music if you get a chance to listen to her live. Happy, Lucky, Lost & Free captures many aspects of Melanie, friendly, open, trusting, solid, unfettered, sexy, and ready to conquer the world - the newest Helen Reddy, hear her roar! Really looking forward to the full album, although Last Glass of Love will always be my favorite.
