ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
MELANIE - Vocalist Melanie Hartshorn-Walton began singing at an early age and remembers listening to many French artists such as Ginette Reno, Felix Leclerc and Joe Dassin. It is through song that she found her passion for music. Melanie got her first music lesson at the age of 6. This was the start of a wonderful journey. Melanie studied classical guitar, voice, piano, played French horn and electric bass. Some of her early jazz influences include Dave Brubeck, Paul Desmond, Ed Bickert, and Chick Corea. At 17, she began her studies at McGill University where she later graduated with a B Mus. It was there that she met Keith, who would later become her music partner and partner in life. Melanie’s journey brought her back to Ontario where she received her B. Ed. Shortly after receiving her degree, Melanie taught music in a French immersion school “the best of two worlds, speaking my mother tongue all day, and teaching kids to love music.”

E. – Keith Hartshorn-Walton is the band leader for this rhythm ensemble. That is where the E. comes from! Keith began his musical career in Winnipeg playing bass, tuba and piano. He received his B Mus from Mc Gill University and then his Master of Music from the University of Toronto. With music, he traveled all over the world, and is currently touring with Canada’s Foothills Brass Quintet. Keith’s influences include Howard Johnson, Stevie Wonder, . Nothing sweeter than a tuba playing a jazz.

Melanie E. - Now, both Melanie and Keith are focusing on keeping these wonderful French songs alive and giving them a new public by reaching out to all with funky jazz idioms, and awakening the senses of those familiar with the popular repertoire who may not have been introduced to jazz. Bringing the best of their world, to the world around them.

From Carolyn Pogue in Calgary:
We have listened to this CD over and over. It is beautiful. Melanie's rich and vibrant voice is a gift. She makes the world feel more funky, looser, happier when she sings. Keith's band is the perfect compliment. Play on!

The French language is incredibly beautiful.
This cd is for every listener. I don't speak French, but it spoke to me. Beautiful sounds, great musical feel. Perfect for the music listener who has everything.
I am awaiting Volume II.
