Melanie Joy Hall brings a natural warmth and openness to her music. By turns sweet and sultry, her strong and expressive alto voice slides smoothly from folk melodies to jazz standards to rootsy rock. Born in Lincoln, Nebraska, into a creative, musical family (father Gary is a professional musician, while mother Linda is a talented visual artist with an ear for harmony), Melanie’s been singing ever since she could speak. Piano came naturally at an early age, followed closely by choir-singing, flute-playing, and eventually guitar-picking. Through college and her 20s, Melanie worked in musical theater: acting, singing, and playing piano with theater companies all over the U.S., from New York City to South Carolina to Denali Park, Alaska. She currently is based in Portland, Oregon, enjoying the creative atmosphere and high quality of life there. She continues to spend her summers singing and playing in Alaska.
Melanie’s first CD, “Falling to the Moon”, includes original songs by Melanie and Gary Hall, as well as new versions of songs by Joni Mitchell, Sarah McLachlan, Dolly Parton, and others. It features acoustic and electric guitars by Gary, piano by Melanie, and backup vocals by the whole family.

A great buy

Melanie's voice is haunting. Her Case of You brings new light to the lyrics. Her Somewhere Over The Raindbow taps into the song's optimism and hope with an upbeat swing. And her original works, especially the title song, are completely unforgettable. A true find!
