Born in Texas and a loyal Austin resident, Melissa has traveled the world solo-style since 1998. She picked up the guitar at age 16, eyes set for the stage.
Her passion for music is the driving force behind all her endeavors, which include several volunteer efforts in the community.
Melissa infuses her effervescent energy into her songwriting, which radiates her spiritual foundation and boundless, unconditional love of life.
Her first live gig, debuting original lyrics and music, was at age 19 in Austin at the Hole in the Wall. After numerous solo gigs, she formed a band called Stellary and a year later, the band changed drummers and its name to Significant Digits. Significant Digits played several Austin venues, including Antone’s, Stubb’s, Emos and Room 710. Significant Digits released their CD, Bird, in October 2003.
Elements of PJ Harvey and Melissa Etheridge, plus years of growing up on classic rock and pop have all inspired me to form my own brand which I call 'Solo-Style'.
Solo-Style is more than a 'style' of music. It is a statement of independence and a testament to never settling for apathy, mediocrity, and never giving up on what you believe in.
I am thrilled to be exploring the Solo-Style, which showcases my songwriting and continues to share the love that comes from creating. The Solo-Style album, released in August 2004, was self-produced and self-released.
I am currently working on new material for a record to be released in 2006, as well as gathering musicians to play on the record, and for live sets.

'soulful lyrics, and simplistic acoustic sound with unbridled guts'
author: Gogirlsmusic, Annette Warner
"Melissa shares her soulful lyrics and simplistic acoustic sound with unbridled guts. The raw and lonely sound is a fantastic effort for a first release. Definitely an artist to watch grow in 2005." Hit Picks: "My Field"
