WHAT THE CRITICS ARE SAYING:

"Melody Diachun is one of the world's finest young jazz composers and vocalists." - BRAVO!TV

" ... There seems to be a tight, near-telepathic rapport here. Melody Diachun's voice is light and understated with a bluesy accent ... romantic moods that can be sexy or sentimental as the song requires ..." - CADENCE MAGAZINE

"A warm, accomplished voice ... formidable range ... sparkling guitar ... standout (piano) work ... original material that catches the ear..." -THE VANCOUVER SUN

"Simply wonderful... sultry vocals ... she uses language well, capturing images and feelings, reaching out to her listeners ..." -THE NANIMO DAILY NEWS

"Terrific ... pure voice and unembroidered style..." -THE VANCOUVER SUN

"LULLABY of the LEAVES is a soothing, twilight companion ... includes originals and such gems as You and the Night and the Music." -THE MONTREAL GAZETTE

"It's hard to keep up with all the jazz vocalists emerging in these singer-saturated days, but Canadian singer Melody Diachun is worth keeping up with ... She sings attractively and is patient with the slowest ballad tempos ... Throughout, she resists the annoying temptation to be self-consciously jazzy." -THE OTTAWA CITIZEN

"Melody Diachun is the quintessential vocalist, reminiscent of those great 'girl singers' of the past - Ella, Peggy, Sarah, Helen and the rest. MELODY'S voice and feel for the music are a joy to hear as she delivers her repertoire with flare, elan, and her own unique style." -Dal Richards, Radio host, "Dal's Place", 600AM

"You have perfect phrasing! It's scary." -Kenny Werner, Jazz Pianist, Educator & Author

Conceived as a collaboration, the album explores and reveals classic and original songs from three points of view. Melody's warm voice and unaffected, sensitive approach wed perfectly with Murphy's expansive manipulation of harmony and time. Combined with "sparkling guitar" (THE VANCOUVER SUN) and lyrical and supportive bass playing from Stephenson, the three take turns shining a light on the very soul of each composition.

  • A must buy CD

If you like jazz then this is the CD for you. I saw Melody one New Years in Vancouver and lost the CD and was so happy when I found it on CD Baby.

  • Easy on the Ears
    author: Patricia Shanks

It seems like this CD offers a tune for every listener. The songs I enjoy most are Table For One, Comes Love and In the Wee Small Hours of the Morning. Paraphrasing something I read in an official review somewhere, the ego is absent in this rendering. This is not a singer and her band. These are musicians singing and playing ensemble. Some indie recordings showcase musicians who are trying too hard - and not succeeding. This is not one of those near misses. This is a direct hit - understated, solid and good recording quality, too! Good to hear musicians making music for the love of it, as is obvious in this recording.

  • Fine versions of standards and very interesting original works
    author: George Hopkins

I feel guilty that I've had this CD for 18 months and am only now testifying to its merits, but that says that it's a keeper. The format is vocalist Melody Diachun with jazz duo of pianist Bob Murphy and bassist/guitarist Doug Stephenson. Musicianship and sound engineering are first rate. Six standards are performed in common jazz arrangements. I bought the CD for the title track; vocal versions of Lullaby are scarce. This version is one of the best. The original compositions were an uxexpected bonus. They really are original. Melody's lyrics show great sensitivity to the human condition. Saint Catherine reminded me of Rodgers & Hart's Ten Cents a Dance and Cole Porter's Love for Sale. It is equally touching. Little Head by John Hiatt is not a standard but is an amusing treatment of an aspect of the human condition that guys can identify with! This CD reminds me of a mixture of Diana Krall's Steppin' Out, which is all standards and recorded with a jazz trio (DK is part of the trio) before the she could afford fancy prodcutions, and her latest CD, The Girl in the Other Room, with her first originals.

  • The real thing

I find myself coming back to this CD more and more. It is now in my all time rotation. Buy it, you'll like it.

  • Music that makes you melt?
    author: millerdog

What can I say? I bought two cds. My friend wouldn't give me back my original copy. Get this one! It's a winner!

  • Terrific singing...I was bowled over!
author: Demetrios Tsimon, radio host, "Straight No Chaser", CFUV-FM

Your CD was there in the new releases shelf and I played on my show your Same Sunday and You And The Night And The Music ... and I was bowled over! You have a lovely breathy/smoky voice and your own song was terrific. It had all the halmarks of the great standards. Your phrasing shows you know what jazz singing is all about. I am thirsting for more. I wish you all the success in the world. The jazz path you have chosen is hard . But if you were in it for quick fame and fortune your musicianship would get in the way. Just do it for the love of this great music. It needs people like you.

  • I've listened to your CD and it was da bomb!
    author: Steve Young

It's definitely a must have for any music lover’s collection. The song Saint Catherine would make a cool video. Anyway, congrats and best wishes!
