Album Notes

Amana Melome'

Born in Germany, raised around the world, Amana Melome' grew up exposed to music from around the world. Both grandparents were heavy in the international Jazz scene; her grandfather Jimmy Woode started as the youngest musician in Duke Ellington's band and toured as one of the golden men of Jazz until his recent passing.
" My grandmother was a jazz vocalist and I remember loving listening to her sing while ironing. By the time I was a teenager I knew so many old jazz songs it surprised even her... I enjoyed them so much, they just stuck" she giggles.

" I've been fortunate enough to see much of the world, and can't wait to see the rest. The languages came into play because I love to communicate and possibly have an exchange with everyone I encounter" she says humbly, carrying 4 languages plus in her pocket (English, Italian, French and German ).
Amana moved back to the States to go to college and made the village in New York City her home for some years as she earned her BA degree at NYU. She recently moved to LA to pursue her singing career.

"I grew up listening to (and being inspired by) everything under the sun...thanks to my mother; everything from Carmen McRae to Angelique Kidjo, from Manu Chao to Vivaldi, from Bob Marley to Lauren Hill, from Neffa to Alliance Ethnique, Eminem to Jack Johnson...so when I create music, my ear jumps all over the place and I'll find myself combining opera with bossa and jazz, but hey, that's who I am..."

"Essential to my existence is the love and support of family and friends including my wonderful producer 'Sage'. So blessed to find someone on the same crazy page as I am...after tedious trial and error with other producers " .

Now dedicating full time to songwriting, she says " the arts ARE my life, everyone in my family is an artist, and creating is as essential as air to me .
I am looking forward to the journey as I get a chance to share myself with the world, each day I am excited anew".

Her lyrics : vivid and laced with a consciousness and purity that can only add to the music scene today.
Currently Amana has a band performing around the country and sharing the live experience of her songs promoting her newly released CD "Indigo Red".

Keep an eye out for this rising star.

Pure and melodic

Everything about this album exudes quality, from Amana's pure soulful voice to the crystal clear production.'Caterpillar'is a beautiful midtempo song but Amana is not afraid to get funky as on 'Space Age Mama Jama'.'Indigo Red' is thoughtful and poetic spoken word track and shows Amana's versatility but every song contributes to make this one very special msical experience.
