ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Mel Stark's clear and vibrant voice is a joy to listen to. In combination with her own harmonies as well as contributions from singer/songwriters Beth Wood and Lori Kats, Broken Line stands out as a great debut album that just makes you feel good as you listen to it. All her songs come from life experiences that she felt needed to be voiced. Little Girl is about her daughter whom she lost contact with and now happily reunited with. A Rose Upon a Grave is a song about her mothers love of her father even after he has passed away. Broken Line, the title track, is about how in todays economy, it is hard to find work to support yourself and your family and how appreciative you can be to have any work at all. These are just some of the stories that are told in this album. It all comes from the heart. The two covers on the album, The Light and Dear Someone, were chosen because Mel wanted the challenge of taking a great song and arranging it to fit her style. Mel has great respect for Emmylou Harris (The Light) and Gillian Welch (Dear Someone) and is thrilled to share her arrangements of these songs on Broken Line.

From an early age, Mel began singing with her father, and he was her inspiration in pursuing music as a career. She pursued music in college with a bachelor's degree in music composition and a masters degree in music technology. When she is not singing in front of an audience, she is teaching college students the art of recording and creating their own music in addition to freelancing as an engineer in music recording and post production. Mel's dream was to make music, help others make music, and have a great time doing it. She dared to dream, and made it. Life couldn't be better.
