TOP BOLLYWOOD SINGERS IN COLLABORATION FOR JAZZ FUNK ALBUM VENTURE

Lyricist Melvyn Rodrigues signs Sunidhi Chauhan and Vasundhara Das to bring his Konkani compositions alive

Sunidhi Chauhan, Vasundhara Das and Soumya Rao have been penciled in to sing in the Konkani jazz-funk venture, called 'Dini Dini’, put together by its lyricist Melvyn Rodrigues and Dubai-based music composer Alwyn Fernandes. The 8-song album has been launched worldwide in the month of January 2006.

For this effort, the Bollywood crooners have joined a galaxy of well-known singers who live in different parts of the world but share a common Konkani heritage. They are brought together by 'Kavita’, a trust which works for the promotion and promulgation of Konkani-language poetry, and by Daijiworld.com, a premier website focusing on news from the Konkan coast in western India.

Dini Dini is perhaps the first music album that features so many Indian singing sensations together. Rodrigues and his composer, Alwyn, have converted their album into a global effort, inviting well-known singers such as Goa’s evergreen voice Lorna, south Indian singer Guru Kiran, Rony D’Cunha, Warren D’Souza and Joy Fernandes (all from Kuwait), Alwyn Fernandes (Dubai) and Adolf Jayatilak from Mangalore.

Alwyn Fernandes, one of the most talented young film music directors and an accomplished guitarist, has composed and arranged music for this album. Fernandes has earlier assisted Hindi music director Sandeep Chowtha in arranging hit scores for movies such as Satya, Vaastav, Mast, Jungle, Shool, Jab Dil Kisi Pe Aata Hai and many others. He has also worked together with Kannada music director Guru Kiran for over eight years and was the music director for Kannada movies Jackpot and Praana.

'Dini Dini’ consists of three each of male and female solos, one duet, and a trio. Recording of songs have been done in Kuwait, Mumbai and Bangalore, while the editing was finalized by P. Balaraman and Hareendranath, highly respected sound engineers in Mumbai.

All sale proceeds from this album will towards establishing a permanent fund to conduct an annual Konkani poetry competition among high school students in Karnataka, South India.

  • Konkani Music Owes You!

I took good time to listen to the much anticipated 'Dini Dini'. And I am glad to tell you that I am delighted with the work. Perfection reverberates in all departments: lyrics, music, singing, and recording; it is indeed a rare act. The tunes keep lurking in my facutlies lingering to be savoured long after… Music is amazing; without doubt top class, the tunes have a rich variety. Every time Alwyn Fernandes breathes music, he keeps raising the bar. Rony D’Cunha shines out in the star studded line-up to prove that he is second to none. Alwyn apart from his innovative supply of music has admirably excelled in his classical solo. Warren is impressive, Adolf is exciting, Joy looks promising. The other stalwarts: Sunidhi, Guru Kiran, Vasundhara Das, Soumya and Lorna need no praise, they have lived up to their stature; even on accent they don’t look offbeat. Melvyn, great dream, splendid work, excellent outcome. Bravo! Dini dini shall figure right up there. I wouldn’t be surprised if Melvyn + Alwyn combo comes up with more classics in the future. Personally I would have wished at least one of our own female artists – I guess there is no dearth - to have been showcased in the Album to prove mettle. I am sure to everyone who approaches the album with an open heart is awaiting an artistic gala. Once again Melvyn and all your collaborators, my salutes to you. Konkani music owes you.

Excellent CD, music is fantastic! First time I've heard a konkani CD with such pulsating music. Excellent lead guitar and Violin. I would have liked the sound of guitar and drums a bit more amplified when the lead was played during interludes, as it would have given a fantastic effect. Nevertheless, a good CD worth listening.
