Madwoman: A Contemporary Opera

Madwoman is a filmmaking tour de force which artfully explores the splintered mind of a woman who is faced with the dichotomy of contemporary living versus the laws of nature within herself.

It investigates issues of conflict and chaos in our current critical mass mindset toward the inherent differences in human existence by evaluating existence in the one single individual. The Madwoman. The woman who is black but white. The embodiment of the polar. The symbol of the conflict and the union.

M, an Internationally acclaimed performance artist based in New York, depicts a series of compositions, "m-enations" from a deemed "Madwoman", in an film of space, light, sound, items, images and concepts. This installation includes live performances by M, and stands as a sculptured interactive artpiece otherwise. Supported by a Master team of Artists and Technicians, this presentaton includes state of the art customized surround sound created by James P. Nichols, Broadway, Jazz and Grammy Award Winning Producer/Engineer with Dolby Laboratories; as well as Creative - Stage Direction by Claude E. Sloan, Jr., of the LOEB Drama Center Experimental Theater at Harvard, and the New York Shakespeare Festival at the Public Theater.

With a commanding 6 octave range and stunning visual presence, M has captivated international audiences with mesmerizing stage and screen performances highlighted by her lyrically compelling music, and an electrifying theatrical delivery. In Madwoman, M explores through song, spoken word and stunning visuals, paradox and duality both from without and within. That M is a woman of color with albinism, Madwoman is inspired even more with a most unique perspective on the notion of difference entirely.

With this CD, M steps assuredly into the pantheon of the greats - Sarah, Billie, Mahalia, Chaka - bringing her powerfully rich voice to bear upon her lyrically complex compositions. That she offers breathtaking renditions of the standards "Don't Explain" and "Come Rain or Shine" in this collection serves to show how she expertly, reverently mines the past as she carves out rich, new musical territory of her own. Just listen to the haunting "Anymore" and you will be seduced and pulled deeply into the world of a woman who's passionate life resonates in every note she releases. Her voice, the songs, her lyrics, the stories she paints will leave you spellbound and have you returning again and again to listen, learn, feel and be transported.

A delight to lift the soul

If you thought M’s first CD was awesome, you’ll think this one is Da Bomb. Mysterious Madam Madwoman M has done it again. The pieces range from earthy, to industrial, to pieces that take you to the stratosphere. Speaking of stratosphere, M’s vocal range seems to go from soprano to contralto. My God, woman, is there no end to your talent? Each of these masterpieces (mistrisspieces?) carries us along in M’s journey of self-discovery. Of course this journey ends in triumph. “I don’t care anymore, I’m Not afraid.” You go, girl.
