Women have always played an integral role in American popular music, especially in blues and jazz. Known as the home of the blues and the birthplace of rock 'n roll, Memphis has been fertile soil for the growth of American popular music. Memphis Belles-Past, Present & Future is a comprehensive sampler that includes some of the most widely respected female artists associated with Memphis. It encompasses practically every style of music from classical to alternative rock. The 12-page booklet includes descriptions and photos of each of the twenty artists. Hardly anything or anybody is left out of this effort from Inside Sounds, a Memphis-based label founded in 1992. It is a CD intentionally inclusive and a celebration of talent, from twenty-something year old aspiring stars to artists who have graced the planet since before television was invented.
