The Mendoza Dance Parti was formed in 1993 and produced several 12-inches specially made for English and French DJ's. Because of winning the audience-award of the Amsterdam Heineken Crossover award, their first album was a major underground jazz-dance success! The band toured through Europe frequently, with highlights in Barcelona, Berlin and ofcourse homebase Amsterdam at Paradiso.
Right now the band just produced their 5th album '5', the follow up to the previous album 'This Life', which can be described as a step back to the roots of Mendoza: groovy funkyness. Some of the best Dutch soulfunk vocalists have contributed to this unique album: Raffaela Herbert, Monique Bakker (Candy Dulfer Band), Linda Bloemhard, Ivar, Lilian Vieira (Zuco 103) and Job Chajes (Amsterdam Klezmer Band).
The new album also has a CD-rom track containing a photo gallery, MP3's of unreleased demostuff and great remixes.
Dutch glossy magazine "Jazz" described the album like this: " The cd sounds very loose and organic. As if Sly Stone left his hiding place for a moment to help them out! A Terribly nice album!"

De funkformatie Mendoza Dance Parti werd opgericht in de zomer van 1993, toen nogal wat Nederlandse bands zich ineens over funk en dansbare jazz uit de jaren zestig en zeventig gingen ontfermen. Van veel van die bandjes wordt weinig meer vernomen en ook rond Mendoza Dance Parti was het lange tijd stil. Maar 5 mag gelden als glorieuze comeback, waarbij van de zwakte (hoe vind je in Nederland een stervocalist(e) die overtuigend een band kan dragen?) juist een deugd is gemaakt: met zeven gastvocalisten krijgt ieder nummer een andere kleur binnen het spectrum van zwarte dansmuziek. Van Prince-achtige falset tot de laagste registers zoals die in die typische jaren tachtig funk klonken. Opvallende bijdragen komen van Amsterdam Klezmer Band-saxofonist Job Chajes (die zich manifesteert als een bijzonder overtuigende “funkateer”) en van Zuco 103-zangeres Lilian Vieira, die van de door Hammondorgel en trombone voortgestuwde reggae Meu Amor het prijsnummer van de cd weet te maken. Op het cd-romgedeelte staan interessante extra's, zoals voor de dansvloer bestemde drum 'n' bass remixen, maar ook heel vermakelijke 'audiosnapshots' uit de oefenstudio: allerlei aanzetjes, ideetjes en jams die een goed beeld schetsen van de werkwijze van deze groep aanstekelijke funk aficionados.'
