Album Notes

Born out of the deltas of Leucadia, CA and seasoned in the smokey juke joints all along the American West Coast for years as a Tom Waits and sometimes Quicksilver Messenger Service cover band, Mendoza Y Los Guys burst onto the rock scene in 2004 with their debut album, Shut Up & Drive. The band was called Blue Funk & the Conscious Party in those days but had to change the name to Boofunkle & the Leroy Jones after receiving separate cease and desist orders from the estates of James Brown and Bob Marley, respectively. Two months before their second "Unplugged" album was to be released, they were sued by MTV, Eric Clapton, the estate of Jim Croce and for some reason PETA, respectively. Band leader Steve Mendoza at that point decided to go with his own name for fear of further litigation. Then and now, a Los Guys show is truly a genre-defying experience featuring anything from fun with a crisco plate to the ghosts of Woody Guthrie and Syd Barrett. The band's latest album, Carl & Sunshine, combines Mendoza's politically-charged, gravely anthems with careening guitars to churn out a keen collection of rock and roll at its finest. With standout tracks like "Yet Even More Psychedelic Guitars For The Entire Family," already certified platinum in Estonia, Mendoza y Los Guys are an essential addition to any music lover's library.
