Men in Blues

They sound like what ??? Get the rock out !

These guys are not your traditional SRV or Muddy waters blues band – if that’s what you’re into – stop reading !!!

Men In Blues thrust the traditional blues sound into the 21st Century with style and panache.

MIB move from a mellow funk on songs like Battered and Bruised, to full on Zeppelin inspired rock with ‘Soul money’.

A modern blues band with a strong emphasis on grooves. This 3-piece band are enthralling an ever expanding horde of converts right across the country. With vocalist / guitarist Mike Beale up front and a truly dazzling rhythm section comprising Marty Knight (bass) and Andy Engwirda (drums), they are rocking, grooving and infusing their way into the worlds of audiences everywhere.

Recent appearances at the Australian Blues Festival, Blues On Broadbeach, The 25th Annual Gympie Muster and Western Australia’s premier blues fest Blues At Bridgetown have seen MIB reinforcing their Aussie foothold. That said, they have been praised internationally as well, receiving airplay all over Europe (incl Spain, Germany, Poland, France) and the U.S.

Securing their status as one of Australia’s finest blues/rock/funk outfits, their track ‘Lost’ from their first EP ‘Drinking Overnight’ was the number one ‘most-requested song’ on the French Station Midnight Special Blues Radio.

2007 saw the release of the bands first full length cd “Battered and Bruised” and interest and airplay both at home and internationally continues to grow. Highlighting Beale’s powerful soulful vocals with strong song writing and Engwirda and Knights relentless rock solid grooves, Battered and Bruised comes one step closer to capturing this bands unique and dynamic approach to playing music.

Currently the band, just back from a whirlwind tour of Western Australia, are bunkered down writing for the new cd due out later this year.

“It doesn't happen every day when a song literally jumps on me like your "Drinking Overnight" did. I'm deeply impressed by your music, by your mix of blue cold and red hot vocals and guitars. Never heard anything like this before. To all those ‘new Stevie Ray Vaughans’ and ‘new John Lee Hookers’, I prefer artists which are out of compare. Men In Blues sound like they are.”
Paul Bondarovski, Midnight Special Blues Radio – France

“MIB is a rhythmngroove band, by no means short on blues, but not the 12 bar bumpa bumpa variety. At first you notice the musicality...songs where no weak links exist. In true blues style, political correctness is thrown out the window and replaced with raw emotion and feelings. Overall a great bunch of songs that should engage both traditional and contemporary blues fans alike”.
Melbourne Blues Society

“Really clever, mixing blues with a bit of rock, funky and even some jazzy overtones.. very catchy. Mike Beale is a talented guitarist, songwriter and a singer with a strong voice - his imagination is evident in every single one of those aspects. Together with a tight rhythm section he has recorded a hot CD. Battered and bruised, maybe, but they sound better than ever!”
