Composed by Lucy Deakin
Vivien Lloyd of ‘Vivien Lloyd Preserves’ and author of ‘First Preserves’ commissioned this song to promote the making of traditional marmalades, and in particular marmalade made by men.
Vivien Lloyd’s passion for the tradition of marmalade making culminated in her becoming the overall winner at the World’s Original Marmalade Festival 2008. Founded in 2006, the festival has developed into ‘The Marmalade Awards’, which include a ‘Man Made’ category. The awards are held at Dalemain Historic House and Gardens in Cumbria in February each year, at the beginning of National Marmalade Week.
A proportion of the proceeds of each download the song (20% during 2012) will be donated to ‘The Marmalade Awards’ as a contribution to the charities they support.
The book First Preserves is an authoritative guide to making marmalades, jams, chutneys and how to enter competitions. In the book, Vivien shares her favourite recipes with the help of step-by-step text and images, and offers expert advice about using the best quality fruit and vegetables to make them into award-winning preserves. The book is aimed at anyone who would like to know more about home preserving. Experienced preservers will find unique, reliable recipes and explanations that are not found elsewhere.
Vivien explains the rules of entering competitions and what to expect from the judges. She informs and inspires readers to preserve the produce they grow or buy from local markets, and experience the excitement of winning a competition.
