The Wall of Sound

by meniskus

How can so much sound possibly come from just a violin, a guitar and a set of drums? If you don't get up and dance to this, you have no soul.

ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Acoustic electronica: it only seems like an oxymoron to those who haven’t yet experienced the music of meniskus. The unique dynamic of the band starts with a violin and a nylon-stringed guitar - both enhanced by a barrage of effects - and gets driven by an arsenal of percussion.
The music is informed by the extensive classical training of Wright and Ostberg, as well as the unique sound Bardusco brings from his experience as a self-taught guitarist growing up in Venezuela. The three players weave all their diverse flavors into a cohesive, powerful and unique sound. The influences of popular bands like The Police, Stone Temple Pilots, Alice in Chains, The Dave Matthews Band, Phish, as well as the rhythms of Latin grooves and European techno/house music have found new life in the music of meniskus.
The canon of meniskus music currently stands at nearly 50 original songs, with 12 of the best of those currently being recorded on the band’s second full-length album, “Foreign Beyond.” With the guidance of Producer John McVey and the facilities of Coupe Studios (The Fray, Rose Hill Drive, DeVotchKa), “Foreign Beyond” promises to build on the success of the band's 2005 debut release, “The Wall of Sound.” The January 2007 release of “Foreign Beyond” is being supported through a video for the single “Letters,” as well as US and European tours.

wall of sound
Listened to Foreign beyond a lot and then Wall of Sound. The change is amazing. It's not often that you get to hear the beginning versions of music and then what happens to those versions after much work (and play!) Your passion and dedication is obvious and inspiring! I love it! Go forth and make more!!!

Wall of Sound - review
When I first heard Meniskus play live earlier this year, I was very impressed by the quality and complexity of music that came from this three-piece group. While there is only a violinist/singer, guitarist and drummer on stage, they truly do produce a wall of sound through the intelligent use of effects and looping, making the group aurally appear much larger. The Wall of Sound CD is very similar to their live performances, capturing the largeness of the sound and portraying their excitement. While most of the tracks are instrumentals, they are so involved that you probably will not notice the lack of vocals. Personally I applaud groups that don’t always cater to the idea that “all music must have lyrics,” but then I am a lover of jazz and ska and funk instrumentals, which like Wall of Sound, tell their message through an intricate musical tapestry. I love this CD and have burnt the songs into my memory through repeated playing, more than any other CD in a long time. The only issue I have is that when friends ask me what kind of music Meniskus plays, I have a difficult time explaining it. The core is certainly rock, but there are undercurrents of electronica and tastes of Latin jazz throughout. Give it a try.

Sooo Hot by far the sexiest music I've ever heard
I just saw you guys in Keystone, When I heard Eric whaling on that violin I started to sweat couldn't take my eyes off of him the sound was so mesmerizing it threw me into compleat orgasim. Guys if you want to get laid just put these tunes on sit quietly and wait. Its a shoe in!

Can't get enough of Wall of Sound.
Having just seen meniskus live on stage four times on Saint Patrick's Day, 2007, I keep listening to The Wall of Sound daily. I'll be out to hear their wonderful sounds Saturday, too. Look out, Europe! Here they come.

The only CD in my car for months!
I listen to wall of sound every singly day since i got it. I work in a busy emergency room in denver, and listen to this CD on my way to work, as well as ALL THE TIME!

The most unique album I've heard in years.
Wall of Sound is heavy on instrumentals - but the instrumentals rock so hard, that you just don't care. I heard they're going back to the studio this year, and can't wait to hear what they come up with to follow up this great album!

the one that knows

it will move you
They simply rock. Try listening to nightly erotic sitting still. It's impossible, it makes you groove with it.

ADIDAM-all day i dream about meniskus.

I do everything to this album.... that's right EVERYTHING.
I drive to and from tae-bo with it on non-stop. I fish, cook, eat, sleep, masturbate, shower and breathe to this album. I've gone through 5 CD's in the last year from overuse (not from overmasturbating). I recently bought them out of current stock, so I'll never run out again, and have plenty of Labor Day Presents. I actually have one CD playing through my powerbook right now and another perfectly in unison blaring through my stereo in the next room. I write haiku about Meniskus. I will someday sleep with all of them. Buy this disc.
