The inspiration for this recording project was Ballads, the supremely beautiful John Coltrane Quartet album. But one of many albums created by the legendary quartet of John Coltrane, McCoy Tyner, Jimmy Garrison, and Elvin Jones, Ballads is a classic in the best sense of the word, meaning that it is timeless and stands as art. Style and stylists come and go, but this this album will simply go on forever.

On the CD recorded here, Kenny Barron, Bob Sheppard, Dave Ellis, Peter Barshay, and Lewis Nash pay tribute to these jazz greats my making this selection of ballads their own, keeping them surprising and making them new again.
