Album Notes

THE MERCURY SEED
THROWING ROCKS AT THE SUN

"8 out of 10! Their rootsy rock is built for stadia, and if there were any justice in the world, the stupidly melodic 'This Time' - with its loose E-Street groove and killer chorus - would be a radio hit of massive proportions. Seriously, they're that good."
-Classic Rock magazine issue 118 (UK)

"4 1/2 Stars! Emotion is the crux of this set, the stunning music a backdrop to Volker's husky, thick-with-feeling vocals and his constantly evocative lyrics. Many jump out to grab listeners by the ear, but all ring absolutely true. Amazingly, the band produced this set themselves, and the sound is magnificent, beautifully heightening the atmospheres while capturing every instrument and note sung to its best advantage. Superb!"
- All Music Guide (allmusic.com)

"4 1/2 Stars! Throwing Rocks At The Sun knocked us on our asses. The band's melodic guitar-fueled rock mixes toughness with sincerity. Every one of the tracks on the Mercury Seed's album, which this quintet divides into "side one" and "side two", captures a young band at full throttle. Some of the best guitar solos you'll hear all year happen on Throwing Rocks At The Sun, the songs are accompanied by husky and convincing lead vocals with swelling choruses, and the bands own production gives the album that extra oomph that many discs by better-known artists lack these days. The Mercury Seed's music does fill a void in American Rock with a truly remarkable record designed to reignite passion within music fans who often wonder where all the good music has gone. With Throwing Rocks At The Sun, The Mercury Seed has sown the roots of what should be a productive career.
- Sea Of Tranquility (seaoftranquility.org)

“4 1/2 Stars. This admirable indie album is far from the chunky, somewhat simplistic fare that passes for “alternative” rock today. The Mercury Seed play a guitar-heavy, always melodic brand of rock and roll that has shifting tempos, daring dynamics, and something that’s been missing from much modern rock – risk.”
– Biloxi Sun Herald

"9 out of 10. From top to bottom, this album exemplifies what rock music is all about - captivating lyrics, driving melodies and solid instrumentation. It's a simple formula but it's something lacking in today's modern rock era. The Mercury Seed takes us back to the basics of how America fell in love with rock music..."

REVIEWS

Buy it I say!!

First heard them on the Classic Rock album where the song "Under the Radar" was included, the best track on that CD in my oppinion. Wich brought me to instantly get myself a full copy. First of I just LOVE Volkers voice. Then the guitar playin is wicked and the mood of the whole album is super duper. Trap Door in Heaven is a song I play a few times a day at the moment.
