"The Rebellion" is the sophomore effort from electronic songsmith, Mercury Sol. This new collection of songs is somewhat of a departure from the manic tempos and abundant samples found on the debut "3000 Miles From Boston." On this outing Scott opts for a more organic live-sounding experience. The opening track, "Invisible Man" sets the tone with its epic melodies and acoustic textures. As the record progresses, tracks like "Her Majesty's Secret Groove," and "We've Got to Come Together" are not so subtle reminders that funk and dance are alive and well in southern California. Alas, let's not forget the rock - "The Creator," and "Joe Deer (The Masterplan)," are sonic gut-punches of guitar-goodness.
"The Rebellion" was written and recorded in Santa Barbara, CA between August 2004 and August 2005. In addition to numerous guest vocal spots by alternative hip-hopper Halfa' Buck, Scott recruited longtime bandmate (and brother) Chris Parent to play bass on many of the albums tracks. The result is sonic chemistry that dates back to their touring days back in the northeast.
As a companion piece to "The Rebellion," anyone that purchases the CD (either from CD Baby or from any of the digital download stores) will receive a second album's worth of material called "Mashups, Rarities, and Remixes." This amazing disc features ten additional tracks that were recorded, mashed up, or tweaked during the "Rebellion" sessions, but for one reason or another didn't quite fit on the album. With vocal performances by: Q-Tip, De La Soul & Flave Flav, Dierdre, Filo & Peri, and Kyoko Baertsoen, this 'bonus' disc will be a treasured gem in your collection.

Easily the most potent and invigorating mixmash you'll hear all year

Call it trip hop, mashup, whatever you want -- just don't miss it. Mercury Sol slams an intoxicating collage of sounds and beats that are all over the place and fully cohesive at the same time. Fabulously mindbending. If this is the rebellion, then keep up the fight.
