The young Meredith Edgar, knocking around San Francisco's stages and open mics, has a voice that kicks and skates and channels the centuries all at once. Joined by the full musicianship of the DTs (Dave Allender Guitar, Evan Bautista Drums, Mishe Guiffre Bass, Cameron Depalma Sax and Flute) this live DVD, recorded at Ex'Pressions Center in Emeryville, California, is a snapshot of a vocalist/songwriter playing off towering cityscape lights. "Some one else could steal my heart, and you'd never miss it" she offers, one eye closed, studying her pitch, and another half-open, checking out your reaction--did you catch that? Long sax blow by Cameron, tight clips across drums by Evan, and an industrial, elastic uncoiling guitar solo by Dave sharply add kick and fill to Meredith's dark portraits. If you were here in the bay area today, this is what you'd hope to find in the cafes, or back-street music rooms. Schooled by local jazz masters, sharing the stage with every age up she comes singing and playing connecting every heart in the place with the beat and the push-pull of a deep soul-cast.
