Album Notes

This is the debut album from Mermaid Police. After four years of hand carving songs, Jason Dooley pieced together ten of his favorites, purchased an 8-track recorder, a handful of microphones and took on the job of recording his first complete album under the name Mermaid Police. The album was recorded and mixed with careful baby hands over a period of 90 days in his home studio and mastered by Charles Allison at Spanner Studios.

Ladies and Gentlemen, I give you The Beachles!

If more Beach Boys and Beatles were alive today making music in a single band, it would likely be a catastrophe, but I would still like to hear it. This album comes pretty close. It gives me the same feeling I had when I would listen to 100% Fun by Matthew Sweet way back when and marvel at what a genius of pop melodies he was and why he wasn't more commercially successful. The Mermaid Police are one of "those" bands that come as a salvation of good home grown music in a sea of horrendous garbage that floats about from club to club and radio station to radio station.

Superb!

About two months after my marriage began I was widowed by my husband's love of synthesizers. Along with his new-found love came the need to explain every eye-twitching frequency bend proceeding from such an instrument. Next to ELO, Mermaid Police's self titled album has been one of the prime examples he uses to illustrate the proper use of a Moog - heavy synth emphasis but without "over-doing it". Mermaid Police is sacred to him. I am pretty much forbidden entrance to the basement regions of the house whenever the Mermaid Police album is rolling. I don't mind though. Thanks to this album, my cats and I have spent MANY evenings grooving the lonely night away. Honestly, if it wasn't for Mermaid Police, I don't know what I would listen to!

I've never heard anyone sing so passionately about sugar cookies! Except for Cookie Monster. Sesame Street Live is BAD (Michael Jackson BAD).
