Ruka is a newborn in our family. Her father Tim Heidt takes lots of wonderful photographs and shares them. At the recording studio we passed around the pictures and played as if we were actually playing to Ruka.
This lullaby is a new version of a song I wrote when i was working in the music therapy department of children's hospital in Oakland CA. The original title is "Just the Right Song". The song was inspired by the question of what to sing for a newborn baby. Of course we all want to express "Welcome to earth". At the same time, we were asked to play soft flutes and recorders for babies because the pure sound of the flute was a way to connect to them in spirit. So here we are, bodies, minds, hearts and spirits, and the music is inspired to help connect .
