This equally ethereal, urbane and knowing collection of mostly instrumentals is a chest full of wonderful ideas that have the tendency to mingle or flower out of each other. A surprisingly knowledgeable debut.

Album Notes

Ron Mertens (AKA Mertero) lives in Tel-Aviv, Israel. Composing and improvising for many years, Design of Experiments is his first album.

The CD was composed and recorded during 6 years, from 1997 to 2003, finally to be released as a CD in the beginning of 2004. Mostly instrumental, the music was described as being minimalistic and atmospheric, somewhat reminding works of Philip Glass, Wim Mertens and Jean Michel Jarre.

The aptly named "Design of Experiments" has music ranging from solo piano to synth-ish "Virtual Orchestra" compositions. The music reflects Ron's life - from his University years, 3 Years in the Army service, and a long trip he has taken to New-Zealand and Samoa.
