This is MGH's first release since moving from New York to the glacier ice fields area of British Columbia. The mission was to make acoustic instruments sound alien, and to create a musical discussion with unlikely characters. The sessions were recorded during late spring '06. Seems to sound best after four 20. Tracks were recorded and processed at 24 bit. The CD sounds MUCH better than the web MP3s. Production notes & lyrics included.
Thanks for reviewing this album! You should see it show up on the album page in a few days.
What a plesent surprise. MGH is both melodic and political. With the sample farming, did he just say that track “Bush Lied” its political, but you can dance to it. While other standout tracks include the hauntingly melodic “Morning Geese” by the end I find myself start to sway as I become swept up in some kind of silent sing-along. MGH uses unique instrumentation that is holistic in its approach and not an afterthought. Subdivided Heartland is another stand out track for me that supports this. An inspired melody pulled from the either by MGH. As if the sounds are coming from some far off memory or unknown future. Even the title gives me pause and gets a little twinge. The track Mom’s dead I find to be a dark soundscape piece. The title track hints of a dark humour that I hope to see in future output of the band. Contrasting jangly guitar swells with machine texture percussion In a world of digital homogeny this duo stands out as authentic. AND it sounds great on the Hi-Fi! Is electronic analog a genre?
