ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Do you Love Irish Drinking Songs? Are you a kitty cat lover fanatic?

Put those together and you have Irish Drinking Songs for Cat Lovers, a CD for the wonderfully demented kitty cat fantatic. Listen to music you've heard on St. Patrick's Day or by The Dubliners, The Clancy Brothers, The Wolfe Tones, and the Irish rovers. Then laugh as all your favorite Irish Drinking Songs are rewritten with Cat song lyrics. Your love of Celtic music will never be the same!

Irish drinking songs and Irish folk music, in general, are some of my favorite songs to sing. I guess that comes from being a fan of The Dubliners, The Wolfe Tones, The Irish Rovers, and The Clancy Brothers. When I had a revelation in 2003 to compose an album entitled Irish Drinking Songs for Cat Lovers, I decided to start writing. Lo and behold, I'm halfway there.

The album is not yet recorded. So you'll still have to wait a while, but each song is based on a traditional Irish drinking song, but re-written with cat lover lyrics. The album features famous kitty cats from Sylvester and Tweety Bird to Cat from Red Dwarf. There are songs about black cats and tabby cats, songs to make you laugh and songs to make you cry.

If you are a cat lover like I am, I sincerely hope that Irish Drinking Songs for Cat Lovers will be an absolute joyful album. And if you're not a cat lover or hate Irish drinking songs, I hope to change your mind.

HILARIOUS
After hearing the mp3 of Wild Kitty on the artist's site, I had to buy this cd. I was laughing so hard that I had tears running down my face and my sides STILL hurt. I can hardly wait for the full-length cd.

DO NOT PLAY THIS CD WHILE DRIVING!
This is possibly the worst car music CD in the world, unless you have the ability to avoid accidents while steering from the floor. I guarantee you will be laughing so hard you won't be able to see straight, breathe, or hold objects in your hands, much less operate heavy machinery. I also do not recomment eating or drinking while listening to this CD, it will most likely cause inspiration pneumonia. If, on the other hand, you really want to wet your pants and wind up with aching ribs, go for it!!! Loved it!!!!!!!!!!!!

My cats and I approve!
Instrumentally rich, and lyrically witty, if you love cats or just a good parody this is the cd for you! It's the cat meow! I can't wait for the full cd.

My Kitty's Eyes are Smilin Too
This CD was great! Now I want to get several copies for all my Irish, cat-loving friends!

Ok, it's "only" three songs. Tough. You'll laugh for an hour.
What a howl! I haven't had so much fun in ages. Great rewriting of some classics. Even the dogs enjoyed them.

Oh the wacky things a cat does
Cats do the wackiest things, often leaving their humans scratching their heads in a puzzled sort of way. When Kitty Eyes are Smiling is a tribute to those times. Whether you are a crazy cat person, or are merely fond of Irish drinking songs (and who isn't?) this is a great addition to your collection-it's sure to appeal to everyone in your family, four legs or two.

quite a bit of fun
As a cat lover, I have to admit that I was fairly curious about this EP. Released as a promotional tool for the album "Irish Drinking Songs for Cat Lovers " (Due out October, 2005) this is a fun little recording. There are three tracks on this CD and each is entertaining in its own way.

First is a rendition of what I've long referred to as the "faire performer's contractual obligation" song. Wild Kitty gives a fun feline twist to Wild Rover, which is a song that almost everyone does and I think few of us even enjoy doing anymore. This version is fun and entertaining and the "meow meow" callbacks are delightful.

Next parodied is another old favorite, which is the title track to this EP. Light and fun, this tune gives hope that an entire album of cat parodied Irish tunes could really work. Indeed, the song seems so natural, that one unfamiliar with "When Irish Eyes are Smiling" might simply believe it to be an original tune.

"Furagone's Wake" is certainly my favorite track. I've always loved the song and this is certainly a bit tougher to parody. Even the gaelic phrases from the original chorus get transformed, and to great effect.

This is quite an ambitious project, as it is difficult to pull something like this off without sounding like a children's album from the 70's. There are times when the EP walks that line, but it never crosses it. Overall, this is quite a bit of fun and it isn't every day that I listen to familiar songs and find myself forced to stop and listen to each lyric. That in and of itself made this a bit of fun.

The EP is $5.95 from CD Baby. A nice, inexpensive addition to any collection and certainly worth adding to your cart while picking up some of Marc Gunn's (and Brobdingnagian Bards) other albums .
