Few teenagers can sing about life, love, and loss and make us believe it. Mia Borders, however, is an exception. With lyrics so personal, so mature, and so direct, she can take us into her universe and make the rest of the world disappear.
With such diverse musical tastes, it's no wonder her sound is unlike anything else. She cleverly combines pop, rock, soul, R&B, funk, and jazz to bring a unique flavor to the mix.
Her first release, "Satisfied," arrived in the fall of 2002, featuring twelve acoustic songs. It was an experimental, but strong start for Mia. "It was definitely a hit or miss kind of thing. The sound quality was poor and I knew that going into it, so it forced me to get serious about the lyrics. It had to be something worth listening to." Indeed it was worth listening to. Those who did hear it knew that something great was just around the corner.
The collection was followed shortly by her second release, "Lovin' It," with eleven new acoustic tracks. "It was much more poppy than the first CD was, but that's okay, I guess," Mia says. "The production quality was a step up, and that's what stands out about that CD to me. I was progressing." It was the first release from Mia's independent record label, 616 Records (now Blaxican Records).
Her third release, "Good Things," was something Mia took her time with. "It took a while to write and compose everything, but in the end I think it was worth it. I actually wrote some of the more favored tracks in Italy. I guess I'll have to go back ..." she jokes.
The fourteen tracks on "Good Things" feature two revamped songs from "Satisfied," three from "Lovin' It," and a spoken word. Stepping out of the acoustic world was very important to Mia. "You can only hear a girl with a guitar for so many songs. I needed to change it up and force myself to grow as a musician."
And grow she did. "Good Things" is Mia at her best. Passionate lyrics, infectious beats, and catchy hooks, the collection shows the promise of a artist who can change the face popular music.

A little rough, but worth it!
author: Susan Gloryborn
Although the production is a bit rough, this CD is worth it. There's a level of real consciousness put into every song and it makes it a pleasure to listen to. This girl's got promise and this CD is a great listen. It touches on so many genres and the spoken word is great. It's definitely not a CD for kids, but teens and adults can really enjoy it.
