The Miami Saxophone Quartet’s fourth CD once again features the formidable composing and arranging talents of our own Gary Lindsay and Ed Calle, who frame the quartet in a variety of styles and genres, with backing by many of South Florida's premier musicians. The opener, Lindsay’s take on Ron Miller’s Seventh Sign, melds saxes with synths amid Richard Bravo’s torrent of Latin percussion. Lindsay also contributes two from the Dave Brubeck library, Blue Rondo a la Turk and It’s a Raggy Waltz. Blue Rondo, anchored by bassist Chuck Bergeron, includes a nod to Paul Desmond’s classic alto sax solo. Raggy Waltz showcases Jim Gasior’s artful piano work, with support from drummer Mike Harvey. Calle’s catchy originals Dancing on a Cloud and Spunky each feature a round of sax solos, the latter buoyed by the contributions of session masters Lee Levin and Dan Warner. Lindsay’s one-of-a-kind Jazz Suite for Double Quartet places the saxes side by side with the Bergonzi String Quartet in a truly unique and original work. Finally, Paquito D’Rivera’s Afro-Mexican dance Wapango shows off the quartet unadorned. Welcome to the “fourtified” version of the Miami Saxophone Quartet, complete with all the "bells and whistles" (seriously- check out Seventh Sign). Enjoy!
