Tenor saxophonist and Berklee grad Michael Antonelli brings his compositions and his big warm sound to the front. A professional performer for thirty years, his unique style shows influences of Coltrane, Bird, Rollins, and his teachers Joe Viola, Frank Tiberi, and Joe Lovano.
Guitarist Kevin Golden has been playing jazz for over 22 years in the New York Hudson Valley area. His style is reminiscent of Grant Green, Rene Thomas, Joshua Breakstone, and other jazz guitar legends. He has studied with Joshua Breakstone, Peter Leitch, John Scofield, and Sal Salvador.
Bassist Peter Nobile's love of the double bass began when he saw a video of the Dexter Gordon Quartet with Rufus Reid on bass. From that point, he was hooked. Since then, Peter has had the good fortune to have studied with some amazing players: James Cammack, Lou Pappas, Todd Coolman, Lynn Seaton, and his main influence, Rufus Reid. Currently, he has occasional lessons with Jay Anderson.
Drummer Tim Herrmann began his professional music career performing with local bands at age 13. A student of Steve Beers, Charlie Morano, Collin Walcott and Sonny Igoe, Tim has performed with “The Jimmy Dorsey Orchestra”, “The Swing & Sway with Sammy Kaye Orchestra” and “The Lawrence Welk All-Stars”.
Woody-n-Me, the premier release of Michael's Jazz quartet is a collection of bop and standard based originals penned by Michael Antonelli and Kevin Golden. It was recorded live at the leader's home on two dates in the winter of 2008. Brought to you without a studio, without overdubs, and without artificial ingredients; we believe it is the closest representation of our collective spirit as possible. We hope you have as much fun listening to it as we had creating it.
The "bird" theme pays homage to Charlie Parker, represented by the Cardinal, while the Woodpecker represents the hundreds of musicians influenced in some way by his legacy.

Great debut CD!

It's apparent that these are well seasoned veterans in the field of jazz. This CD has well constructed tracks, great acoustics, and sounds like it could be their 4th or 5th release instead of a debut. Looking forward to more from this talented quartet!

I have had the pleasure of seeing this band live a few times now - most recently
at the TAP 08 festival this weekend in the Catskills.
I really, really enjoy this band, and I'm enjoying the CD immensely. Pick it up - you will not be disappointed.
